Checks Are In The Mail!
Capital Credits reflect each member’s ownership in the cooperative. As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, Douglas Electric does not earn profits like an investor-owned utility, but when revenues exceed expenses, the co-op earns margins. When the financial condition allows, those margins are allocated to the members based on the amount of electricity an individual member purchased.
This year, Douglas Electric will be retiring approximately $1.1 million in capital credits to those members who were receiving electric service during 1986, 1987 and part of 1988. Checks were scheduled to be mailed out December 20. At times, Douglas Electric is unable to contact former members or their next of kin to distribute retired capital credits. To determine if a member or family member has previously unclaimed capital credits, consumers are encouraged to go to www.dec.coop or call 541-673-6616. “Capital Credits” and an alphabetical listing of names is located under the Member Services menu tab.
